Biking and Me

I have joined Biking Club since I came to GCA. I really love biking and enjoying the view on the road. I rode bike at least 18 hours this term with my classmates and teachers.
We went to a lot of places of interest and even rode out of Nanjing. We usually had 7-10 people to ride together because to share a good fortune with another can make goodness of life become more and more magnificent. I learnt that it is very important to take care of others especially when we are outside. Our leader David always stopped us when someone felt tired, sick or got hurt. The activity not only had physical training, but also had hearted training. And I have known that a friend in need is a friend indeed.
We have gone to Zhongshan Tomb, Xuanwu Lake, Jiangjun Mountain and Baohua Mountain. These places were very beautiful and attractive. Although it says that walking is men’s best medicine, I think biking has more fun than walking. We can enjoy the joy of speed and we feel very comfortable when the winds below to our face. I have better Physique than my classmates. At first, I always rode on my own and never waited for others. One time, I fell down on the road and my knee got hurt. Our leader David stopped others immediately in order to wait me. I was moved by his action and I decided that I would not ride on my own any more. From that day on, if I was going somewhere, I always wait for my friends and stay together.
During our riding, I experienced the hurt of my leg, and my friends gave me a hand. They waited for me and gave me Band-aid. I felt very grateful to them because they did not leave me alone. From their action, I learnt that friendship was such an important thing that we all need it to live happily. And I knew that we should try our best to help those people in need. Also, riding makes my body much stronger than before especially my two legs. I can pass running test easily in our PE lessons and I even got an A in PE in the first term.
I also ride my bike to school every day. It is faster and more convenient. My goal is to pass my PE lesson and riding can train my two legs. I was lazy and never exercised before I joined the biking club. But now I love to exercise every day because I found that riding bikes was really interesting and life is not only the Internet. Biking let me know we live in such a big and magnificent country with so many places of interest and they are just stay there and waiting for me and my bicycle. Biking gave me energy to live and make me found that I can almost go anywhere by my bike. It improved my physical limitation again and again. It keeps me healthy and energetic.

Also, I played badminton with my friends in a big sportscentre.
And the most important, biking let me understand the truth of our life-friendship.

My experience in Nanjing Population Bookmall

I worked in Nanjing Popular Bookmall from January 20th to January 21st. I chose such a place to work in because I love reading and like to stay with books. I got 8RMB per hour and I learnt a lot during my work.
I worked for 10 hours in all and I knew about something about books and business. I supposed to work in the mall of the literature and that was my favorite, I know a lot about the novels and work whatever the nations of the books because I have read most of them during elementary school. My job was to take the book out of the warehouse and display them on the shelves so that customs can see. Also, I need to introduced the books to the readers in the mall and tell them where is the book they want. It was a tough job because you need to remember the locations of all the books, and you need to read most of the books in the mall. On the first day, a woman who has worked in the mall for 2 years came to me and taught me how to promote the sales of books. She told me that was important to know the thoughts of the customers. And we need to change their thoughts to ours. We use different ways to different kinds of people. Always wear a smile on your face and let the customers never know what you think. I learnt that commerce is really a war which between the sellers and the customers. And the weapons are eyes, words, facial expressions, manners and brain.
At first, I thought to promote is losing face and was really difficult. But after a while, I found the job was very interesting and challenging. I found I was so smart and good at catching others’ thoughts. I promoted plenty of books in literature and felt satisfied. I grasped that smile and good manners was so important that people always moved by your sincerity.
To learn from others is very important because they know a lot of things that you do not know. When I take books from the warehouse, it is impossible to carry them by myself. I always worked with another young man who came to the bookmall earlier than me. We use a chariot to carry hundreds of books. He always supported with a hand and I push the chariot. You can see collaboration is useful everywhere. When you face the customs, you need to be proactive and ask them whether they need help with a smile. And I learnt that smile is a key to success.
I had promoted about 100 books to the readers and that was my responsibility. And I think that the community is formed by the different kinds of responsibilities and working is not only for myself but also is for the community for the people is the basic of the community. Actually, I worked for people and try to help them. Sometimes I felt a little embarrassed, but most of the time I felt content. The more you learn about the skills, the more goodness you will experience. And the more you experience and appreciate the goodness of life, the more there is to be lived.

Having Dinner in a Western Restaurant

On December 30th, I went to Fusions Tacos to have dinner with my classmates and some grade 12 students. The restaurant is on Zhujiang road and on the top floor of the Golden Eagle Shopping Mall. We met at about 5 o’clock at the restaurant and I arrived at 4:50pm with Jack and Kevin. Students in grade12 chose this restaurant for us because this restaurant is cheap and traditional. We enjoyed ourselves in the restaurant instead of the party at school.
The environment in the restaurant was very good and there was music when we have dinner. The colorful light created an atmosphere of harmony and comfort. I ordered a huge pizza and a glass of lemonade. And the pizza was called Chet Pizza. I really liked that pizza because it had a lot of meat and sausages on it. The bread was baked very soft and with the special spice. It tasted very delicious. The lemonade was tasty, cool and a little bit sour. In China, we usually eat rice and with several kinds of dishes so that we can get what we want from the dish. But there they put all the things on the bread and we just eat the whole thing in front us.
Most of the customers there were from foreign countries. There were also some lovers and youths there. However, I think the service there was not very good. It took us a long time to wait for some of dishes that we ordered. Maybe we had too many people there, but they seemed a little forgettable. And that led to some of us had already finished eating when other’s dishes were still not done.
In all, I will recommend my parents and other friends to have dinner there. The flavor there is great and the environment is perfect. It will be a nice place to take if you do not have any urgent things to do.

CRITIQUE OF MY FAVORITE ARTWORK

On December 4th, we went to Wu Weishan Cultural Figures Sculpture Gallery of Nanjing University to see an exhibition. Most of the art works are Chinese traditional Sculptures and made by the great artist Wu weishan. Some of them are contemporary and some of them are traditional.
I choose the sculpture named Ah Bing-a folk musician. It is made by Wu Weishan in 2007. The whole sculpture is made of copper. The artist Wu Weishan used curves and straight lines to describe a folk musician. He was a blind man wore a pair of round sunglasses. The whole body is oblong and it has a square head with a strange hat. The curves show the difficult that he faced. As we know, Ah Bing could not see anything in the world, but he could still use his ears to listen and learn about the nature. So he stood beside the spring in the mountain and listened to the voice of water-nature. Then he used a Chinese traditional instrument-erhu fiddle to express what he felt and how he weathered his life which was rugged.
When I stood in front of the artwork, I could see a great man who was imperishable and unyielding. He stood there straight and his clothes look like fluttering in the wind. He was very thin and his face was full of wrinkles but he looked erect and resolute. Although he was very poor, he still wore a smile and looked optimistic. He was not a materialist but model of all the disabled. That was all I see in the artwork.
I felt moved and ashamed when I saw the artwork. Ah Bing who was a blind man but he never felt sad, he wore a smile and was sanguine to his life. He got all out in designing music. I am a normal man but I did not work hard. He was a blind but got such big success. I felt very ashamed and moved.
The artwork makes me think about Ah Bing’s work-two springs in the moon. Anyone would shake when listen to the music. You can see the image that a man wore sunglasses stood by the spring and with erhu in his hands.
The artwork reminds me of a woman named Zhang Haidi who was a disabled. She could not walk and she had to stay in bed all day. However, she did not give up studying and finished the course of university on her own. Her spirit is very similar to Ah Bing I think. The artwork relates to the idea of respecting to disabled in the world. They are different from us but their spirit is imperishable. They use their action to honor our respects.
I think the artist’s attention is to express Ah Bing’s experience and talents. Also, he wants to tell us that music is that something natural fluid from one’s heart. It represents one’s characteristics and treasure of life.
I like the artwork very much because the artwork makes me see the splendid life of a resolute man and also, the artwork encourages me to study hard.
The sculpture’s smile and aged face makes me feel this way. His face is old and full of wrinkles and let me know we must fight with destiny and never give up. I think most of Chinese people might appreciate the artwork because we all know the story of Ah Bing and his famous music-two springs in the moon. And after they see the artwork, they will be conquered by the spirit and the vivid figure and then learn about how to face their life immediately.
