I have joined in our school movie club which led by David since I came to GCA. I love this club very much because I enjoy making videos and using computers. And by becoming a member of the club, I have learnt a lot about computer technology and how to work in a group. That is very important for us if we enter the society and survive in such a big world.
When I first came to the club, I knew a very few things about the film and television production. So I needed to learn a lot of things from other predecessors. During every activity, I asked many questions and other members always help me solve the problems and I learnt more and more. So far, I have known how to use Ulead Video Studio, windows movie maker and Adobe Ultra CS3. These software include many kinds of advanced computer technology such as High Dynamic Range, Chroma key, virtual set and so on. The Chroma key is most commonly used in movie making. This kind of video processing technology is a technique for mixing two images or frames together which can cut out the images or moving pictures from the original settings and then you can put it onto another setting. This is very useful for photography which filming locations are limited. Also, we have to regulate contrast, highlights, shadows, hue, saturation, sensitivity, transparency and so on. These effects seem very complex, but they are really simple and interesting. The only thing you have to do is to enable the functions and drag the scroll bars.
Because of my studious spirit, I spent few weeks learning skills and can help the club make the movie. We did not have computers at school so we need to bring the videos home and edit them. So I have to use my own computer as a graphics workstation. Fortunately, Internet is so convenient that we can communicate on the Internet and send files to each other. My job was to cut out images from the pictures by the Chroma key and send them to other members.
I also have learnt that cooperation is very important. The video was so big that I cannot finish it by myself, so we need to divide the job into different small parts and distribute to different people. In the end, we need to put all the things together to finish the final movie. We need to hand in our works on time to guarantee the movie is finished on time. This is our responsibilities and we have to be responsible for the task. In the future, I must face larger projects and it is impossible for me to finish on my own. So we must learn how to work in a group and how communicate well with others. And learn to be responsible to other people and business. These basic skills can lead us to the success when we enter the big society I think. Those are all I have learnt by my experience in the club activities.
I love computer technology though they are developing so fast that I just know a little about it. Making movie can increase our imagination and creation. Although it will take me a lot of time to learn those skills, I never regret because no sacrifice, no success. And knowing that ask not what computer can do for you, but what together we can do for the development of man by our efforts.
