Volunteer Time

Today, my classmates and I went to the Swatch shop to do some volunteer work. I did about seven hours from Wednesday to Thursday in the morning. I have learnt a lot about watches in the world and I found that watch industry is much more complicated and interesting than I thought before.
I started at 10 o’clock on Wednesday morning in Xinjiekou Swatch Shop. When I entered the shop, I was surprised by the exquisite watches. There were plenty of different kinds of watches. I was supposed to help to market them to the customers, pack the watches and repair the watch straps. First, I learnt about the history of the shop and about Swatch. Then, I learnt how to replace the strap of the watch. You need to use a tiny hammer to take the two needles on both sides of the watch in order to arrange the straps on the watch. You need to do that very carefully because the watch is very small and it is hard to do some processing on it. Also, you need someone to help you to fix the watch to make sure the watch not moves away during the work. I tried that with my good friend Jack and he helped me fix the watch. I thought that repairing a watch was more interesting than wearing a watching and I thought I did a quite nice job because the customer gave me a big smile when I finished. For the most of the time, I was helping the Salesperson pack the watches and I thought that was a really simple job.
On the second day, we started to learn how to market watches to the customers so we need to learn all the things about the watches in Swatch. All the watches had their names such as Precious Leaved, Plate Show, Pictures of Me and so on. Each watch has different name which relates to their appearance. For example, Rombusglam means geometry and the watch was formed by several pieces of diamonds and triangles. Also, we needed to remember the prices of the watches and how to use the watches properly. Most of the customers are young people around 18s. We needed to be very polite to them though they had similar ages with us because we had to sell our products to them. We were told to learn what the customers think by looking at their eyes. I found that working with enthusiasm was a very important part during our marketing since they would be affected by your attitude and maybe change their minds after listening to your words. It was also important to observe the appearances of them as it would be more directly know what kind of watch they want. Over all, I think that I have learnt a lot from this volunteer work and I got a lot of experiences of marketing things. Also, I learnt much knowledge about the watches. I found that working with emotions is much more necessary than experiences and skills.
